Credit Report

General 5 Nov

Let’s be honest—if you’ve ever borrowed money for a car, house, or even applied for a credit card, you’ve got a credit file. And chances are, it’s not as perfect as you’d hope.

Trust me, I speak from experience. If I could shout this from the rooftops, I totally would: Check your credit report regularly! Seriously. I recently took a look at mine, and let me tell you, it was like opening a mystery box. Equifax had my name spelled wrong (classic), a phone number I’ve never seen, a random credit card delinquency that wasn’t mine, and employment details that were way off. Not great!

This caused my credit score to drop, and if I had been applying for a mortgage at that time, it would’ve created unnecessary complications.

So what’s the takeaway here? Check your credit report before you start shopping for a mortgage. Don’t wait until your mortgage agent is asking you questions about your credit file, and you’re left scrambling for answers.

Here’s a helpful tip: You can order your credit report by mail for free (just note that it won’t include your credit score). If you want immediate access to both your credit report and score, you can pay a small fee and view it online right away.

A few minutes now can save you a lot of hassle later!
